ISSUES
The concerns we have for our community should be addressed as a whole, not as individual issues that exist in a vacuum. A balanced future for Fairfax County, including economic prosperity and an enjoyable quality of life for its residents, relies upon understanding the synergy inherent between living, working, growing and playing. Spike will clearly and effectively advocate for a balanced community, to develop and implement solutions to our transportation problems, enrich public education and give a voice back to local residents.
- Growth: must be controlled by infrastructure capacity limits. Public services and utilities must be enhanced prior to approval of more development
- Education: has to continue to strive for excellence while providing clear answers to parent’s questions about our schools and redistricting
- Taxes: demand fiscal conservation and greater transparency into the allocation and use of your money. Property taxes need not drive our senior citizens, public servants and skilled laborers from our community
- Transportation: requires a fresh perspective focused on resolving the problem through such solutions as hot lanes, mass transit, tele-working and mostly an achievable comprehensive plan
- Affordable Housing: must do more to meet the needs of our valued community members who suffer from Intellectual or Developmental Disabilities but also for those in need of help to get back on their feet or making ends meet
- Environment: the responsibility of us all to protect. Reckless development that reduces our green space and damages our watershed system hurts everyone
- Community Voice: The Hunter Mill District has a tremendous resource in its citizens; I intend to give them access to the issues that matter in their communities so that we can all benefit from their knowledge and perspectives
- Recreation: must be appreciated as the social focal point that it is and for the role it plays in binding our community together
